Sparta Commercial Services, Inc., the New York-based financial services company dedicated exclusively to the powersports industry, today announced that the successful response to the recent launch of its new "Lease-to-Rent" program targeting powersports rental operators throughout the country has been more dramatic than management expected.
Commenting on Sparta's latest innovation, Anthony Havens, Sparta's CEO, said, "We're particularly excited about this new program for several reasons. First, we've again demonstrated that our singular focus on the evolving needs of the powersports industry allows us to bring new financial services products to market quickly and effectively. Secondly, the response to the word-of-mouth buzz that began when we announced the program on March 28th has been excellent, and we're already ahead of where we projected to be at the end of June."
The motorcycle rental segment of the powersports industry has been growing dramatically in recent years. Consumer interest in renting motorcycles for weekends or holidays, or for longer periods as a vacation activity, has resulted in the emergence of a rapidly expanding network of rental operations to meet the demand. Daily rental fees typically range from $90 to $150, depending on the make and model, with Harley-Davidsons currently the most popular brand among consumers. Most operators, which include both retail dealerships as well as independent or franchise rental locations, maintain fleets of between 10 and 30 motorcycles, and some are now expanding their fleets to include All-Terrain-Vehicles (ATV's) and scooters.
Until the appearance of Sparta's Lease-to-Rent program, rental operators usually had to purchase their rental fleets, either by borrowing, or depleting their own cash reserves. But the Sparta program allows rental operators to lease those same vehicles at a significantly lower cost, producing increased profitability and better utilization of capital.
"At Sparta," Havens continued, "we do what we call "periscope planning," meaning that we routinely look up and out at the entire industry, with a 360 degree view, and try to determine where the emerging needs are taking shape and then decide what types of programs we should develop to meet those needs. This new Lease-to-Rent program is an example of how periscope planning can result in real and timely innovation."
Sparta estimates that the potential market for its Lease-to-Rent program exceeds one hundred rental operators, with the largest franchisor projecting the acquisition of 2,000 vehicles in 2006.
Havens added, "We've already delivered $400,000 worth of vehicles in the first month and, with a clear increase in lease applications that are now being processed, we're convinced that the early response to this program suggests that it will be very well received by the rental segment of the industry. We're looking forward to meeting the growing demand as more and more rental operators learn about the program."
