Is
it better to lease or buy a motorcycle?
That depends on how long you want to have the vehicle, how often
you want to “trade up”, how much use you expect to have
each year, and several other factors. See our “Lease
or Buy” section for more information.
Can I lease a used motorcycle?
Yes. SPARTA leases quality used bikes through its
authorized dealer network, including Harley Davidsons up to 7
years old, and all other makes up to 5 years old.
If
I lease a motorcycle, can I customize it?
Yes. Under the SPARTA Flex Lease program, you
can add any bolt on accessories or special paint packages prior
to delivery of the bike and we will incorporate the cost into your lease payments. After delivery, any original parts that you replace with
custom items during the term of the lease should be retained until lease end. If you turn in the motorcycle, it will need to be returned with the original parts.
If
I lease a bike, can I eventually own it?
Yes. You’re not obligated, but at the end of any SPARTA
Flex Lease, you can buy the bike for the indicated “residual”
amount, which you’ll know at the beginning of the contract.
Typically, the “residual” will be about 40%, or more,
of the original purchase price of the vehicle, which you weren’t
paying during the term of the lease. In many cases, SPARTA
will finance the “residual” balance for an extended
period of time.
Is
the interest rate the same on a lease or a loan?
As a matter of law, there is a difference in how this is described.
A loan carries an interest rate, charged to the borrower, and calculated
as an “annual percentage rate” (APR). On a lease, there
is a “cost of funds”, also known as a “money factor”,
charged to the lessee. Although the terms are different, they function
similarly. And, whether you lease or purchase through the SPARTA network of authorized dealers,
our rates and factors are extremely competitive.
Are
there mileage restrictions on a lease?
Yes. On touring bikes or cruisers, the annual allowance is 8,000
miles. On sport bikes, the annual allowance in 6,000 miles. For
most riders, these allowances are more than enough. In the event
of a significant excess over the annual mileage allowance, there
could be a charge of 10 cents per mile for the excess mileage.
